Giovanni Culmone is a photographer and filmmaker based in Rome.

He has produced various works for Italian and international media outlets, including RSI, Rainews24, Internazionale, Der Spiegel, Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, L’Espresso, El País, RTL, Le Soir, Il manifesto, and Middle East Eye. 

He covers social issues in critical contexts, including Ukraine, Western Sahara, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Brazil, Armenia, Morocco, and others. 

In 2018, he won the Roberto Morrione Award as the author of the investigative documentary “The natural order of things”. He was a finalist in 2021 and was responsible for the photography and editing of the winning investigation in 2023. He won the Graziano Zoni Award in 2022. In 2025, he won the DIG Pitch Award for the production of the feature film “Newborn”.
